CLEAR™440        

The CLEAR™ 440 is the latest release from Widex and now offers wireless capability in the same small package as the Passion 440. Whereas most other manufacturers have been forced to make their hearing aids bigger to accomodate their wireless technologies, Widex has managed to pack all the new technology into the same small case as the Passion 440 making it the smallest bte on the market and they included wireless capability.

The hearing aids now talk to each other wirelessly to keep the microprocessors synchronised and allowing them to match decision making processes for various surroundings. Widex developed a new, more powerful microprocessor to enable the wireless capability but which also gives more power for faster processing and adding new functionality to the hearing aids in a number of key areas.

CLEAR440´s new compression system makes sure that changing between soft sounds and loud sounds feels smooth and comfortable.

Better understanding of speech in noisy situations.

The IE Speech Enhancer helps you determine what is noise and what is speech. Speech gets the clarity it deserves.

Location of sound from any direction.

The Digital Pinna in CLEAR440 helps you in determining which direction the sound is coming from. This way the Digital Pinna works like the visible part of the ear – the natural pinna - which collects sound, a bit like a funnel.

Connectivity that lasts

CLEAR440 hearing aids react without delay when you change listening environment, and every time you switch to a different program. They do this because of the fast WidexLink which allows the CLEAR440 hearing aids to communicate with each other constantly - up to 21 times per second.

Security

If connection between the hearing aids is lost, an instant alert is produced, triggered by the WidexLink surveillance system.

RC-DEX

The RC-DEX is a stylish and user-friendly remote control that gives you control of hearing aid functions like volume and programs.

· Intuitive in use: Small enough to fit on a keychain, RC-DEX is intelligently laid out with three simple keys. This means that you can quickly and easily start using it.
· Feature activation: As features are activated, verbal or tone cues let you know. An LED indicator on the remote control also shows when it is activated.

 
 

TV-DEX – TV without echo

Watching television can sometimes be a challenge for hearing aid users. With our TV-DEX, high quality audio is streamed with no delay straight to your CLEAR440.

· No delays or echoes: The main advantage of the TV-DEX is its real time hi-fi quality sound. You experience TV or audio sound exactly as it was intended - without annoying delays or echoes.
· Room Off: With TV-DEX you can temporarily switch the hearing aid’s microphone off and hear the TV sound only – we call this ‘Room Off’– meaning you can enjoy your favourite TV programme without unnecessary background noise.

 
 

M-DEX – Mobile

Compatible with most mobile phones, the M-DEX reproduces phone conversations directly in your hearing aid.

· Room Off: A unique feature of the M-DEX is what we call ‘Room Off’. This turns the hearing aids’ microphones off temporarily so you can only hear your mobile – allowing you to concentrate on the conversation without being disturbed by surrounding sounds.

· Remote control: The M-DEX can also be used as an advanced remote control for volume and program shift.

· FreeFocus: M-DEX can also be used in FreeFocus mode. FreeFocus lets you focus in selected directions, such as left, right and behind, without having to turn your head.


TruSound Softener

The TruSound Softener has been developed specifically to minimise the irritation caused by impulse sounds, or transient sounds such as a slamming door or rattling cutlery, which tend to be perceived as much more annoying by hearing aid users than by normal-hearing listeners.

The purpose of the TruSound Softener algorithm is to make transient sounds less annoying without removing them or making them unnaturally soft.
 

What characterises transient sounds?

Transient sounds come at all sound levels from soft sounds like computer key strokes or a ticking clock, to medium-level sounds such as clanging dishes or clattering cutlery, and loud sounds such as fireworks or hammer blows. They are  very short (< 1 second) and rise to their peak value extremely quickly.

Loud transients will often exceed the hearing aid user’s uncomfortable loudness level if gain is not reduced. The problem with soft and medium-level transients is slightly different. When they occur in a frequency region where a fair amount of gain is applied to compensate for a relatively high degree of hearing loss, transient sounds will often end up sounding unnaturally distinct as a result.

Certain speech sounds are also transient. For example, the English plosives /p, b, t, d, k, g/ have a transient part. It has been a very important goal during the development of the TruSound Softener that transient speech sound must never be attenuated by the algorithm.

Thanks to the Speech and Noise Envelope Characteristics Model in the Steep Gradient Detector, which is the detection mechanism in the TruSound Softener, transient noise sounds can be identified and handled efficiently and securely without speech sounds being affected in any way.
 

Transient sounds require special treatment

Because transient sounds are so brief, the system has very little time to react before it is too late. What is needed, therefore, is a compression system that is capable of instantaneous gain reduction. This is what we have achieved with the invention of the TruSound Softener.

With the introduction of the TruSound Softener in Widex CLEAR440, instantaneous gain reduction becomes possible because transients are detected already in the broadband signal. This gives the system time to warn the compression system that it has to switch to a new, extremely fast-acting compression mode which can reduce gain instantly.
 

Passion™440                 

The Passion™440 – an ultra small, high-performance RIC hearing aid.  Passion440 integrates visual appeal and exceptional sound performance in the smallest size available - maximizing comfort and discretion.
